 | Poetry for charity By Lena LaRueJuly 1, 2001
Proceeds from the sale of poetry book will be going to children's charity. Months of hard work have paid off for award winning writer, Jeanni Brosius of Monticello, Arkansas. Brosius, editor of Unlocking Worlds, a 32-page collection of poetry by nationally known writers, has announced a release date of July 1. Ten writers and one artist have combined their talents to help facilitate a writing and literary program for the Boys & Girls Club of Drew County, Arkansas. All of the proceeds from the sale of this book will go directly to the club.
“We have put a lot of hard work into this project,” Brosius said. “The writers were more than happy to donate their work for such a worthy cause and Brian Simpson worked on the illustrations with an injured hand.”
| | cont. Brosius hopes to work with the club to inspire young writers to follow their dreams. Brosius served on the board of directors of the club in Drew County for two years.
“I began writing in the fourth grade but put it on the back burner to get a real job,” Brosius laughed. “It wasn’t until just a few years ago that I had to follow my heart and make writing my full time career. If students know that writing is a viable career path, it will save a lot of frustrated times in their futures.”
Contributing writers are from coast to coast and all believe in the importance of helping children.
“I hope it doesn’t stop here,” Brosius said. “I have already begun thinking about the next project.”
